The Burning Times
If we are to understand our present and plan for our future, we must understand our past. I share this six-part documentary by the Canadian Film Board with you. Not so that it will produce fear or sorrow, but rather so that we can understand our past and ensure that this will never happen again.
I once worked at a job where most of my coworkers were women, two hundred of us. It was truly the most hostile workplace I had encountered to that point. As a young woman, I could not understand why women had such trouble getting along with each other. And worse, why a woman would turn on another and betray her to better herself. I have come to the conclusion that it is because of the persecution of women, predominantly during the Burning Times. Friends were forced to turn on friends, sisters would turn in their sisters, mothers their children. All to avoid being accused of being a witch. Fear does terrible things to humans. How do we treat each other as women? Do we react out of competition, fear and feelings of insecurity? If we can understand where these behaviours stem from we can heal them. By reconnecting with the Divine Feminine or the Mother aspect of the Divine, the Goddess, we no longer need to feel insecure or lost. Women are creating a new future, one in which women work together to heal themselves and the planet. There is power when women gather together. Power which was lost for so long and now is being awakened.
